A Highland MP has secured a Westminster debate on income from renewables. 

MP Angus MacDonald led a debate on the community benefits from renewable energy projects.

He is a strong advocate for fair compensation for local communities which bear the burden of hosting renewable projects such as wind farms, which are transforming the UK’s energy landscape.

However, many of those communities, especially in rural areas, see little direct benefit despite enduring the visual and environmental impact of those industrial-scale projects.

A bid for Inverness Caley Thistle has been rejected.

A Highland businessman has reportedly had a £1.2million bid, which could save Inverness Caley Thistle from administration, rejected by the club.

It is claimed that the businessman, who has asked to remain anonymous at this stage, made a bid which would realistically prevent the football club from declaring administration this week. Despite the rejection, the businessman is believed to be still keen to hold talks to agree a deal which would give him a controlling stake.

The Screen Machine has surpassed £20,000 in an urgent fundraiser.

 The Highlands cinema on wheels has surpassed £20,000 in a determined fundraising drive to secure £100,000 to safeguard the much-loved service. 

The Screen Machine is an 80-seat mobile cinema which has been bringing films to over 40 of the most remote and rural parts of Scotland since 1998. It is the only self-contained digital mobile cinema provision service operating in the UK and those behind the much- loved cinema have warned that without urgent investment, the Screen Machine will no longer be operational.

A Green MSP has been responding to the closure of Rural Housing Scotland.

The MSP for the Highlands and Islands, has described the sudden closure of Rural Housing Scotland as terrible news.

The Scottish Greens have pushed for a government committee to build more rural homes and for direct funding of community housing enablers. The party is now campaigning for the Scottish Government to do all it can to meet the region’s housing needs, including a range of housing options to ensure the survival of Scotland’s vibrant rural and island communities.
