Scottish Mountain Rescue has issued a safety warning as winter approaches.

The number of mountain incidents across Scotland has increased in recent months prompting a reminder to walkers to have suitable clothing plus a map, compass, and a torch with spare batteries. It is recommended that a mobile phone is not used as the only navigation aid and that a route card should be left with family or friends, as that can assist if the Mountain Rescue teams have to be called out.

The Highland Council is ready for winter.

The winter service got under way of Monday and the Council is ready to treat the 785km of roads for which it has responsibility. Service levels throughout the local areas will remain essentially unchanged from last year.

When required, and when winter conditions allow, operations from Monday to Sunday will start at 6am and continue until 9pm on a priority basis. There will be no overnight service and on days classed as public holidays a restricted service will be provided but will start at 7am.        

Parklands Care Home is seeking good causes for charity collaborations.

Parklands Care Homes is inviting local charities to apply for a partnership starting in 2025 for longer term pairing. The care provider plans to work with two charities, one of which will be located in the Highlands.

Eligible charities must either be locally registered or have a significant presence in the area and the final selection will be made by Parklands staff. For the duration, Parklands will focus its fundraising activities within its care homes to support the chosen charities.

Ullapool craft shop is set to rebrand and move location.

An Ullapool contemporary craft shop is moving premises amidst a new rebrand for the business.

Located on 21 West Argyle Street, the store offers a range of contemporary craft items, including paintings, prints, jewellery, ceramics, and textiles. The shop is now set to move to the former Bank of Scotland premises at 30 West Argyle Street later this year and will be renamed Haven.
