The Cost of upgrading a section of the A9 has soared.

The cost of dualling the 6-mile section of the A9 between Tomatin and Moy is now expected to cost £111m more than originally expected with the total now set to run to £308m, according to a Scottish government report.

The initial estimates for the work on the section stood at £197m before rising this year. Earlier this month the expected date of completion also rose beyond the initial target of 2027.

The Met office has issued a yellow weather warning.

High winds are set to hit the coast of Wester Ross today (Friday) between 7am and 3pm with gusts potentially reaching 70-80mph.

Strong winds could cause further disruption on Sunday and into Monday across the Highlands. The yellow warning is set to last between 3am on Sunday and 12pm on Monday with a chance of disruption to travel and the potential for power cuts.

Calmac services between Ullapool and Stornoway may be cancelled or disrupted at short notice.
