Local Headlines - 6th January 2026

The community consultations this week in relation to the proposed partial closure of the A832 road near Dundonnell will be in Aultbea Hall tomorrow, Wednesday, and in Badcaul Church on Thursday, not as previously reported. Both events will run from 6 till 8 pm on the respective days.

The consultations will be around SSEN’s current proposal for single lane closures of the road to take place between Dundonnell and Fain Bridge for up to 18 months to allow work to proceed on the connection of the subsea electricity cable from the Western Isles to the national grid.

Following on from investigation works completed in summer, BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to start road improvement works at Raigmore Interchange, Inverness.

The works will see permanent traffic signal control introduced, as well as improvements for vulnerable road users. Single lane closures on the Raigmore Interchange Roundabout and the approaches will be in place at various stages of the project, limited to night time off-peak periods between 7pm and 6am. No restrictions will be in place during the day, but lane widths may be narrower than normal to maximise the available working space.

Preliminary works are scheduled to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, with more extensive activity due to begin later in the month. All works are expected to be completed by Friday 1stMay, subject to weather conditions.

North West Highland Beach Cleans has published its group results for December. 26 beach cleans were carried out by 29 volunteers, picking up 378 kg of litter. Totals for 2025 are 453 beach cleans carried out by 660 volunteers recovering 9,472 kg of litter.

Overall, since it started recording in December 2023, North West Beach Cleans has removed over 22.15 tonnes of rubbish from local beaches. The total collected in 2025 was down by 25% compared with 2024, which organisers suggest reflects the positive impact which the group is having as it moves into what is referred to as a more maintenance phase for the beaches. The organisers have thanked all those involved for their continuous hard work without which they say the group would be nothing.
