As Foster Care Fortnight begins Highland Council is appealing for more people to come forward and become foster carers.
The local authority needs people who can look after infants, younger children, teenagers, and brothers and sisters to keep them together, in an emergency and on a temporary basis. Respite care for children with disabilities and permanent carers for older children are also sought.
Online information sessions are available from today until next Wednesday. Alternatively, drop-in sessions are available in Dingwall on Thursday 22nd May and Inverness on Tuesday 27th.
Details are on the council website.
With the UK’s disposable vape ban approaching public safety experts are raising concerns about the potential fire risks.
New research reveals that eighty-two percent of current vape users living in Ullapool plan to stock up ahead of the June 1st ban.
Fire services have warned that the lithium-ion batteries inside disposable vapes can become unstable when exposed to heat, moisture, or physical damage.
Disposable vapes typically have a shelf life of 12 to 24 months, but poor storage conditions can shorten that dramatically.
To reduce the risk, experts recommend keeping vapes in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Three Porsche drivers were caught travelling at ninety-nine miles an hour on the NC500 in Wester Ross at the weekend.
The motorists were snared by speed guns on the A890 close to Ledgowan, during a series of proactive patrols that Police Scotland carried out over the weekend.
The force said that they remain committed to improving road safety across the region.
They added that although the majority of people were using and sharing the roads responsibly, a small number unfortunately chose to disregard the safety of themselves and others ….. and these drivers now face serious penalties.
