Tony Currie’s Lively Lounge is to continue on Radio Wester Ross…
We heard the very sad news that Tony had passed over the weekend. I knew that Tony was ill, but I was ever hopeful that Tony would make a full recovery, but it sadly wasn’t to be.
In one of the brief conversations I had with Tony, he told us to keep broadcasting the shows we had that he had recorded, even though he had brought the programme to a close to concentrate on his health. The shows we broadcast this week on RWR, are as tribute to a warm and wonderful man who was ever the professional.
It goes further though… My initial feeling was that it might be insensitive to air any further episodes beyond this week, but after speaking to Tony’s daughter this morning to pass on our condolences, our conversation turned to the Lively Lounge, and the family have given their blessing for us to continue to honour Tony’s wishes and continue to broadcast the Lively Lounge to the end of the series as we had originally intended.
I can think of no finer way to honour and remember this one of a kind broadcaster with his encyclopaedic knowledge of music and pop instrumentals, and his love of the quirky (who can forget the features he included on the music from the test card!).
Tony will be much missed by us all at RWR and by all who loved the music that he presented. I hope you will enjoy spending some extra time with Tony in the lounge.
