As previously reported, The Communities Housing Trust proposes a development of affordable housing at Darroch Park, Torridon on ground partly owned by Albyn Housing Association and partly by the National Trust for Scotland.
A planning application has now been lodged detailing eight affordable homes, four houses and four cottage flats, with associated infrastructure, complimenting an earlier phase of development by Albyn Housing. According to the Design Statement lodged with the application, feedback from community consultation was overwhelmingly positive with many participants expressing confidence that the development would strengthen the community by enabling younger generations to remain in the area and contribute to local services.
The application can be read in full on the Highland Council website and any comments require to be submitted by Tuesday 20th January.
Highland Council has confirmed that since July last year more than 7,400 square metres of road including 669 metres in Ross and Cromarty, have been repaired using an infrared heating system to heat existing road material which then becomes malleable and can be reworked with additional material to create a defect-free surface.
The use of heat means that the repair is free of cold joints and therefore has no weak points at the edges resulting in a more effective repair that can also be carried out in colder conditions. The contract for the repair work is worth a seven figure sum and lasts for two years from July 2025.The Council says the contract is part of its £2.1 billion pounds Highland Investment Plan which it claims will provide 20 years of funding for roads, transport, schools, offices and community facility throughout the Highlands.
