Local Headlines - 8th January 2026

Following cancellation this week of the community consultations on the proposed partial closure of the A832 road near Dundonnell to allow work to proceed on the connection of the subsea electricity cable from the Western Isles to the national grid, SSEN has produced an information brochure including an overview of the works and details of its current traffic management intentions.

Tree felling and associated works will commence on 19th January 2026, with culvert replacement and temporary bypasses beginning shortly after. During the day, traffic will be subject to single lane convoy management continuing till August 2027 with full road closure overnight from 9pm to 7am from June to mid-July this year.

SSEN says it is planning to hold further events later in the year in the lead-up to the planned night-time closures and will provide more details on these events as soon as they are finalised.

Road improvement works at Raigmore Interchange, Inverness, which had been scheduled to start yesterday have been delayed and will not now start till Monday 19th January at the earliest.

The work is to upgrade the junction which connects the A9 to the A96 as well as providing access to the city centre and will create a traffic light controlled roundabout with improved pedestrian crossings and footpaths. The work which is costing £2 million pounds, was scheduled to be completed by 1st May but it is not known if the delayed start will result in that being extended.

The former Highland Theological College building in Dingwall High Street has been put on the market for sale with the selling agents highlighting the possibility of redevelopment subject always to the grant of planning permission. An asking price of offers over £295,000 has been set for the B listed property which includes a substantial two storey extension to the rear and car parking ground.

The College, which is a partner of the University of Highlands and Islands, exists to provide opportunities to study the Christian faith on a full-time, part-time or open learning basis, from an evangelical and Reformed perspective, in the context of a worshipping community. On completion of the sale, it will be moving to Inverness.
