Local Headlines - 4th April 2026

Following the previously reported yellow weather warning for strong winds between 6pm today and 12 noon tomorrow, now named Storm Dave, the Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning for snow coming into force this afternoon at 3 o’clock and remaining until 3 o’clock tomorrow morning.

The snow warning covers most of Ross-shire except parts of the east, most of Sutherland and extends south taking in most of the Great Glen, Lochaber, the Cairngorms and areas down to Pitlochry and Loch Tay. Blizzard conditions with drifting and blowing snow leading to very poor visibility in parts is possible, but clearing into Sunday daytime as the area of snow clears to the north east.

 

Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum (GALE) has advertised its requirement to employ a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation in what it describes as the regeneration of the Gairloch and Loch Ewe area.

The job description states that the CEO will manage all aspects of GALE’s operations, providing strategic leadership and direction with responsibilities including overseeing day-to-day activities, financial management, fostering partnerships, and ensuring compliance with governance standards.

The post carries a salary of £38,000 pro rata with 7 weeks paid holiday pro rata with 28 hours of work minimum per week. Full details are available on the GALE website with the closing date for applications being 29th May.

 

In the weekend football, Ross County has a home match this afternoon against Airdrieonians currently one point below County in the Championship with a game in hand. Kick off is at three o’clock.

Inverness Caley Thistle plays tomorrow against Raith Rovers at Firhill Stadium in Glasgow in the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup now known as the KDM Evolution Trophy. Caley Thistle has not won the Trophy since 2018 although it shared the Cup, coincidentally with Raith Rovers, when the final was not played in 2020 due to the Covid virus. The match starts at ten past four tomorrow and is being televised live on BBC Alba and BBC IPlayer.
