The Dipping Lugger restaurant in Ullapool has been awarded the title of Restaurant of the Year as part of the Scottish Excellence Awards, generally considered to be the country’s most prestigious annual hospitality competition.

The award was presented at a dinner in Glasgow last week with judges commenting that the owners’ commitment to being more economical and sustainable is very apparent, alongside the sourcing and growing of produce with help from local children which in turn strengthens the community around them.

Assynt Mountain Rescue Team and the emergency services including the Stornoway Coastguard took part in the rescue of a suspected stroke victim at the Bone Caves near Inchnadamph last Thursday.

The coastguard was able to airlift the individual to the air ambulance for onward travel to hospital. While there is no mobile network in the Bone Caves area, a member of the public used the satellite SOS function on their iPhone to call for help and was praised by the rescuers for quick thinking.

Registration is now open for this year’s Bridge to Bridge Highland Cycle which will take place on Saturday 13th September. The annual event which comprises a 77 mile cycle ride from the Skye Bridge to the Kessock Bridge raises money for local charities including The Leanne Fund, DAY1 Training and Mentoring, Highland Action For Little Ones and This Is Me Highland.
