Saturday night, Tartan Week Lochcarron is well underway with various events taking place including a talk tomorrow entitled Travelling Around Wester Ross.
The week which celebrates all things tartan, builds up to a fashion show on Thursday evening, an art and craft fair in the village hall from Thursday to Saturday and culminates with a boat and barbeque at the sailing club on Sunday. More information is available on the lochcarron.com website.
Long time radio presenter, Tony Currie, whose programme The Lively Lounge has featured on Radio Wester Ross for many months died on Saturday aged 75. Tony had a long and varied career in broadcasting including spells with Radio Scotland and Radio Clyde where he was the first voice on air and latterly he was the owner and operator of Radio Six International.
Glen Wyvis Distillery based in Dingwall believed to be the World’s first distillery totally owned by the community, has filed a Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators
The Distillery has been in existence for 10 years and is owned by more than 3,800 members from around the World after being founded with a share offer which raised £2.6 million pounds. Despite recent efforts it was unable to raise additional funding needed to carry on trading as a going concern with directors now working with the proposed joint administrators to achieve the best possible outcome for the members, creditors and the wider community. Owners of privately owned whisky casks will hear separately what is proposed for their whisky.
In the weekend football, in the KDM Evolution Trophy Ross County beat Hearts B team on Saturday by the unusual score of fourteen nil (14-0) and qualified for the knock out stages of the tournament with one game to spare. Kieran Phillips of County scored five goals with two other players scoring three times. Hearts had a man sent off in the first half when the score was four nil. The result is the biggest win in the history of Ross County Football Club surpassing an eleven nil win in 1993.
On Friday night, Inverness Caley Thsitle won its first home league game of the season when it beat Greenock Morton two nil and moves up to seventh place in the Championship.
