Fergus Ewing MSP has threatened to stand as an Independent candidate in the Holyrood elections next year.

In a statement announcing his intention to stand down as an SNP candidate, Mr Ewing said that he could not defend the SNP Government’s failure to deliver its long-standing pledges to dual both the A9 and A96.

Remarking that every Highland family worries when a loved one has to travel up or down the A9 or the A96 he added that - unless substantial and significant progress is made before next March on both dualling road projects - he may consider standing as an Independent candidate

The Inverness Castle Experience has announced that it will introduce a special pass for residents in the Highlands.

The pass - which can be obtained using a Highlife card when booking a ticket online - grants unlimited, bookable repeat visits to the venue from October to March.

The offer includes a ten percent discount on food and drinks (excluding alcohol) with the purchase of full-price tickets.

A spokesman said that the initiative provides an excellent opportunity for Highland residents to explore and revisit the attraction during the quieter months ….

…….. strengthening the connection with the community and supporting the visitor economy by spreading footfall throughout the year.

CROCUS, the child cancer charity, has benefitted from a treasure trove found on the Black Isle last month.

The hoard of eleven silver groats - thought to date back to Scotland’s first Stewart King, Robert the second - was unearthed by the lucky winner of a metal detector at a charity event run by Highland Metal Detectorists.

Finding the hoard was a first for the group of around 40 enthusiasts and has been reported to the Treasure Trove Unit at the National Museums of Scotland.

The seven hundred pounds raised at the event - boosted to over a thousand by the sale of the lucky detector - was handed over to Highland Hospice last week.
