Further details have been released of the visit by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Princess Anne to Wester Ross next month.

Apart from the Old Schoolhouse, Inverasdale, as previously reported, Princess Anne will visit the Applecross Community Company Projects and Applecross Community Hall, the Arctic Convoy Museum at Aultbea and she will open the renovated Aultbea Village Hall all on Tuesday 12th May. The following day Her Royal Highness will attend community celebrations in Dornoch and will visit Kishorn Port and Dry Dock to mark its 50th Anniversary.

Motorists who use the A82 have been given advance warning of resurfacing works to be carried out to three sections of the road in Fort William. The work will be done in three phases and is expected to take six weeks starting on 10th May. It will be carried out overnight from 7pm to 6am with no work happening on Friday or Saturday nights or from 18th to 21st May.

The Highland Council has confirmed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State (Military) Administration in Ukraine.

The Memorandum acknowledges bonds of friendship between the two regions which will work together to explore economic co-operation and development, education, energy projects and tourism. Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the University of the Highlands and Islands will also be involved. While the Memorandum itself does not create legal or financial obligations, it provides a framework through which specific projects and activities may be developed in future.

In the weekend football, promotion and relegation issues may become clearer after this afternoon’s matches.

Ross County has a home game in the Championship against Greenock Morton which it needs to win with the hope that Airdrieonians fails to win its game against Ayr United. That combination of results would move County above Airdrie with just one match remaining next week.

In League One, a win for Inverness Caley Thistle in its away match against East Fife would ensure that it wins the league and secures automatic promotion to the Championship next season.
All the relevant games kick off at three o’clock this afternoon.
