Maree Todd, MSP for the Highlands and Islands, has been appointed minister for Mental Wellbeing, Public Health, Sport, Alcohol & Drugs in the new administration.

The announcement came after First Minister, John Swinney, revealed his slimmed down cabinet.

Maree lost her seat as Constituency MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross in the recent Scottish Parliament elections but was elected from the Regional List.

She brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as both Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, and Minister for Drugs and Alcohol Policy and Sport.

Road users are advised of changes to traffic management layouts on the A9 north of Tomatin as works progress to extend the current road realignment in this area.

To facilitate the new realignment, temporary traffic signals and a convoy system will be in place for one night from 19:00 on Wednesday 27th May until 06:00 on Thursday 28th May

Following completion of the works, from Thursday 28th May, both lanes of the A9 will use the new extended temporary realignment north of Tomatin. 

This is expected to remain in place until around the end of 2026. 

Kinlochewe has been revealed as the gloomiest place in Scotland, according to a new Sun Index.

The Sun Report has been created by MG Timber and Online Marketing Surgery, by ranking weather stations across Scotland by their average hours of sunlight per month throughout the year.

Using data from the Met Office, Leuchars in Fife topped the table with an average of 131.15 hours of sunshine a month.

Kinlochewe fell to the bottom with only 77.2 hours per month - despite being the hottest place in the UK last July with a high of 31.3 °C.
