Next week sees various traffic schemes on roads across Wester Ross and beyond. As previously intimated, full night time closure of the A832 near Dundonnell will take place from 9pm until 7am starting on Monday. The closure is to assist contractors in carrying out work on the HVDC Link Project and is scheduled to continue until 4th October.
Also starting on Monday, SSEN Transmission's contractor will begin de-stumping and vegetation removal works alongside sections of the A835 in the Loch Glascarnoch area. Traffic management is not expected next week but will start a week on Monday, 31st August.
Resurfacing work on the Cromarty Bridge section of the A9 is also scheduled for next week, nightly from 8pm to 6am from Wednesday until Monday 31st August except Friday and Saturday nights.
Finally, the work being carried out on the Raigmore Interchange in Inverness is scheduled for completion on Monday with the new traffic lights being switched on after the morning rush hour.
Two new categories of holidays have come to attention in the last few days.
An increasing number of visitors are reportedly heading to Scotland to seek respite from the heat on what have become known as coolcations, while travel company Inghams Walking has introduced a new category of holiday which it is calling a stillcation and has placed Wester Ross as the number one place in Europe where what it refers to as stillness occurs most naturally.
Inghams refers to stillness as the complete absence of an everyday agenda with total focus being on the present moment and a holiday built round this idea forming a stillcation. In Inghams classification Wester Ross comes ahead of destinations throughout Europe with the Outer Hebrides being the only other UK area in the top fifteen.
Ross County Football Club is in action this afternoon aiming to maintain its unbeaten start to the season.
County is currently third in League One but has a game in hand over the two teams above it. Today’s game is away against Airdrieonians with the kick off at three o’clock.
