The Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count 2025 begins today and they are calling for as many people as possible to take part.
The wildlife charity declared a Butterfly Emergency after 2024’s results showed a marked decline in numbers - the lowest in the Count’s history.
Any sighting provides data on where butterflies are thriving, struggling, or shifting due to habitat loss or restoration.
Observations from across the country will help create a live map of UK biodiversity, allowing action to be taken to preserve the insects.
