Repairs to the A835 at ‘Check Rail Corner’ between Garve and Tarvie have been pushed back until 3rd November this year.

A statement from Transport Scotland states that BEAR have experienced a number of difficulties, including the complexity of a design solution which keeps the Kyle-Inverness Rail line and the A835 open at all times.

The solution under consideration is to construct a beam along the edge of the road, supported by piles and anchored under the road.  The parapet would sit at the edge of this.

A close to final version has received road safety and geotechnic approval and will be submitted to Network Rail soon for consideration.

The new Achmelvich beach car park and public amenities are now open.

The facilities have undergone a one-point-one million-pound upgrade and include a seventy-space car park with designated blue badge spaces, new toilet facilities, two outdoor cold-water showers, recycling bins and new signage.

Chris Taylor from VisitScotland said that investing in infrastructure and promoting responsible tourism helps protect Scotland’s natural landscapes and improves the sustainability of destinations for future generations.
