Gairloch Community Council is considering whether to renew or relinquish its lease of the Glebe, an area of amenity ground owned by the Church of Scotland.

The site has benefited from improvements carried out in recent years by Gairloch and District Development Ltd which no longer wishes to continue in a management role, leaving future arrangements in question.

The lease requires the land to be reinstated to its original condition at the end of its term, with Community Council officers held personally liable. Members have expressed concern that renewing the lease could place significant obligations on future Councillors over its 25-year term. The Community Council recognises that the Glebe is valued locally for informal recreation, walking and dog exercise in particular, and that any change in its status may be of concern to residents, but in view of the circumstances it is minded to relinquish the lease.

Gairloch Boat Club and Gairloch Coastal Rowing Club have announced a joint open day in a bid to encourage locals to participate in sailing or rowing.

On Saturday 6th June taster sessions will be offered by both clubs with the possibility also of canoe taster sessions as well.

The plan is to have a sociable day based in the area between the slip way and the boat club in Gairloch with refreshments being available and all proceeds being split between the two clubs with a share going to local charities. The boat club sessions need to be booked in advance. Further details are available from representatives of either club.

Ross County Football Club has confirmed that it is hosting Scotland’s first international transplant football tournament bringing together teams from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England for a weekend of inspiring, competitive football that celebrates resilience, community, and the power of organ donation.

The teams are made up entirely of players who have received organ, bone-marrow or stem-cell transplants and the four nations tournament is seen as a warm up for the Transplant Football World Cup being held in Germany in September this year. The Scottish team was formed in 2024 by Inverness-based fire service employee Duncan MacAulay who had a heart transplant the previous year.

Entry to the tournament which takes place at the Global Energy Stadium in Dingwall on 29th and 30th May is by donation with hospitality packages also available.
