Highland Council is to consider new measures to tackle a growing number of abandoned vehicles across the region.
The local authority spent around thirty-two thousand pounds last year removing, storing and disposing of dumped cars and vans — up sharply from less than five thousand pounds in 2021-22.
More than seventeen hundred reports of abandoned vehicles were made during the latest financial year, an increase of almost a third.
Councillors are being asked to approve a new storage compound and closer working with Police Scotland and the DVLA.
The council has so far recovered almost eleven thousand pounds in costs.
A youth marine conservation project in Ullapool has been awarded more than eighty-seven thousand pounds to expand its work across the Wester Ross Marine Protected Area.
Ullapool Sea Savers will use the three-year grant to support around fifty young people each year in activities including citizen science, conservation campaigns and accessible boat trips.
The programme will also offer support around eco-anxiety and encourage young people to develop practical responses to environmental challenges.
The funding comes through the Young Start programme, which supports projects involving children and young people across Scotland.
Gairloch Museum is to host RSA Select, an exhibition featuring work by nine leading contemporary artists, from September.
It’s the museum’s first collaboration with the Royal Scottish Academy, and forms part of celebrations marking the organization’s two-hundredth anniversary.
The exhibition will run in the museum’s Upper and Lower Galleries from Saturday the fifth of September until Saturday the twenty-fourth of October.
A preview will be held on Friday the fourth of September, from six until eight in the evening.
The following morning, visitors can meet some of the artists at a free special event, starting at 10.30.
