The counting of ballot papers for the three Highland Constituencies and the Highlands and Islands Regional List will begin at 9am this morning in Inverness Leisure Centre.

Previously, vote counting began as soon as polling closed, but the new system aims to lower costs and boost public interest.

All stages of the counting process can be followed live on Highland Council's YouTube channel.

Following each declaration, a news release, with a photo of the successful candidate, will be posted on the website.

The declaration for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross is expected around 4pm with the results for the Regional List following around 7pm.

Highland Hospice has teamed up with Highlands and Islands Blood Bikes to help patients in the Highlands receive essential healthcare more quickly.

Blood Bikes are volunteer-run networks that use motorcycles and cars to deliver urgent medical items for the NHS, often outside regular courier hours. Their free rapid-response service helps hospitals and healthcare providers transport critical supplies faster than standard methods.

The new partnership will enable Highland Hospice use the network more effectively, especially for patients receiving palliative or end-of-life care, where quick access to medication and equipment is crucial.

To coincide with Deaf Awareness Week, the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) is highlighting the early signs of deafness in children.

Not responding when called, seeming tired or withdrawn, or missing parts of conversations can be signs of a mild or one‑sided hearing loss which in turn can inhibit a child’s development.

Parents and guardians concerned about a child’s hearing are encouraged to contact NDCS for advice and support.
