A small scale Hydro-energy scheme in the Highlands has halted construction because it has no way of finalising a contract to provide its electricity to the National Grid..

Foster Turner Hydro has stopped work on The Gaineamhach Scheme near Gairloch which could generate up to 5 megawats of electricity and could have come online in 2028 onwards. A 7 kilometre access track has been constructed across the moor, but this development has now been put on hold for over a year due to the uncertainty regarding prices and ongoing construction. 

Biotoxins affecting Bivalve Shellfish have been found in the coastal waters in Loch Broom…

Raised levels of naturally occurring biotoxins have been discovered during routing screening at Loch Broom. As a precaution, Food Standards Scotland has advised the public not to eat bivalve shellfish (such as cockles, mussels, oysters or razor fish) from this area until further notice. Commercial shellfish operators have also been contacted by Highland Council.

Through an extensive programme of Gaelic activities for all ages and abilities, this is now available throughout the year, in a variety of mediums. These include local conversation classes as well as an increasing amount of online sessions with participants taking place from all over the world. Community social events are also arranged on a monthly basis as well as after-school speaking classes for children of Primary School ages.
