Bear Scotland has confirmed that the work to replace the retaining wall supporting the A835 trunk road at Loch Garve, known locally as ‘Check Rail Corner’, is steadily progressing.

Preparatory activities were completed earlier in the year and work has now started to install a substantial 108-metre-long concrete beam beneath the carriageway.

This new structure will be anchored securely into the underlying rock using steel rods drilled deep below the road surface. Once the main structural elements are in place, a new safety barrier will be fitted along the top of the concrete, ensuring that the upgraded system provides a robust and reliable service life of around 120 years.
It is anticipated that the existing traffic management at the site will remain in place until November this year and Bear Scotland thanks the community for its patience during the planning and construction of this complex project.

Meanwhile further overnight traffic management measures, affecting the A9 Tay Crossing to Ballinluig section which is currently undergoing dualling, will be in place for the remainder of July. Full details with live updates are on the Traffic Scotland website.

In a bid to cut costs for families spending days out over the summer school holidays, the UK Government has cut VAT from 20% to 5% on a variety of attractions and on children’s meals in restaurants operational from now till 1st September.
The reduced rate will apply to children’s menu meals in restaurants for consumption on the premises, children’s and family tickets for a range of attractions such as cinemas, theatres, museums, and zoos. The government expects businesses to pass on the VAT savings to customers.
