NHS Highland is urging young people who are eligible, to receive the meningococcal group B vaccination…
This vaccination protects against both meningitis and sepsis, both of which can be fatal. With Qualifications Scotland exam results having been announced on Tuesday, a large number of young people will be making plans to move onto the next stage of their academic work or employment. NHS Highland want to encourage as many people as possible to take up the offer of the free vaccination which is being offered at drop in clinics to those who were born between March 1st 2008 and February 28th 2009.
Permission for this year’s proposed Guga Hunt in the Hebrides has been refused by NatureScot.
For hundreds of years, gannet chicks have been hunted on a remote island 40 miles north of Ness on the Isle of Lewis, Hebrides. However, to now allow the hunt to take place, a public license is required from NatureScot. This year for the first time, this has been refused due to the impact on the gannet population. Historically these young birds were a vital source of food for those living in Ness, on the North Atlantic Coast.
The First Beaver youngsters have been born in Glen Affric after 400 years…
Known as Beaver Kits, at least 2 young beavers have been spotted playing alongside their mothers in Glen Affric. It is believed that they were born in either May or June this year. 11 Beavers were relocated from farmland in Tayside under licence from Nature Scot and conservationists have been keeping an eye on new generations, with the hope that they will help shape the future of the Glen.
