Access Rangers have begun patrols across the Highland Region for the 2026 season.
Highland Council’s Seasonal access Rangers team have begun work for the Summer season in key areas such as the NC500, Skye, Lochaber, Wester Ross and Loch Ness. They will be a visible presence throughout the season, focusing on responsible camping and also wildfire prevention. The Rangers will be tasked with a very clear and obvious ‘no fire’ campaign throughout the year. With the ground at times so dry, it is invaluable that wild fires are not allowed to develop and that education is given on the possible outcomes of lighting fires in remote and unpopulated areas.
A 52 year old man has been convicted of the murder of Iain MacFarlane of Inverness.
Waldemar Jaronski (of no fixed abode), confessed to the incident and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was arrested by Police Scotland on the day of the tragic incident and appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Wed 3rd June where he pled guilty to the single charge.
NHS Highland and the Highland Council have launched Highland Power of Attorney Month
This join public awareness campaign is running throughout June to encourage every adult in the Highland region to consider putting a POA in place. They have both emphasised that although a POA can be registered for older people, it is encouraging all Adults to consider taking out a Power of Attorney. This provides security to carry out legal matters should they be required. The campaign continues throughout June.
