Kyle lifeboat was called out on Saturday to come to the aid of a 44 feet yacht in difficulty in the Minch two miles north of the Skye Bridge. The yacht’s crew was unable to get its engine started and was assisted by one of the lifeboat crew who was able to provide a temporary solution which enabled the yacht safely to moor at Kyleakin.

The RNLI helmsman confirmed the yacht crew were extremely experienced and well prepared and did exactly the correct thing in calling for help when needed.

The Scottish Crofting Federation is asking the Government to take further steps to limit damage caused by predation of lambs by white tailed eagles which it claims in some areas has become the main cause of death in healthy lambs.

Reportedly, sea eagles’ habitat range is increasing, with animals being seen in places where they previously have not been present, and in larger numbers where they have. The Chairperson of the Crofting Federation has said that in some areas, predator numbers have reached a point where crofters’ losses of healthy lambs through sea eagles by far exceed losses through stillbirths and other natural causes of death. He claimed the situation has reached a point where things are clearly out of proportion.

While continued government support through the Sea Eagle Management Scheme is welcomed, SCF is asking the government to look into additional measures to control predation in areas where population increases have become unsustainable.

Ross County football club has issued a statement for next season following its relegation to the Championship leaving everyone at the club hugely disappointed and frustrated. The statement says that the club believes it has a dedicated and talented manager in Don Cowie and that he is the right man to lead the club for the season ahead.

Cowie will be supported by John Robertson who has been appointed assistant manager with immediate effect while current backroom staff, Carl Tremarco and Paul Cowie, will leave the club. Robertson has significant managerial experience including a four month spell as County’s manager in 2005 and has worked in the Championship previously.

Chief Executive Officer, Steven Ferguson said that bringing in Robertson to support Don Cowie will allow the playing squad to be reshaped and for things to be turned round as quickly as possible.
