The annual Ullapool Guitar Festival taking place in the Macphail Centre starts tonight and continues over the weekend with workshops, concerts, a late night Festival Club and a trade show running for the whole period.

The Festival began in 2000 and has grown into an internationally renowned event with many musicians returning year after year. Among the artists appearing this year are John Goldie, Hugh Burns and Anna Massie with students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland also appearing. A special attraction will be the launch of a prototype of an instrument developed by Bond Guitars based in Muir of Ord.

A female cyclist suffered minor injuries when she avoided a crash with a silver coloured vehicle which had crossed onto the wrong side of the A832 near Gairloch cemetery at around 9am on Friday 11th September. Police Scotland are now asking anyone with dashcam footage of the incident or who witnessed what happened to get in touch via 101 or Crimestoppers.

The organisers of Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival have announced the headline acts for next year’s Festival which will take place from Thursday 29th to Saturday 31st July. James, Fatboy Slim and Amy Macdonald will be appearing with many other acts still to be revealed.

It has also been confirmed that the Festival’s official charity partner next year will be Highland Hospice. Over the years, Belladrum has regularly donated festival tickets to the Hospice to support its fundraising activity. In 2026 alone, Belladrum ticket donations helped to support more than £70,000 worth of fundraising for the charity with further fundraising and awareness activities planned for next year.
