All eligible young people are being encouraged to apply for a weekly term time allowance of £30 per week from August this year. Called Education Maintenance Allowance, eligibility is based on total taxable household income with the funds being paid directly into the young person’s bank account without affecting child benefit or other benefits being paid to their parents or carers.
Last year, over 300 young people across Highland benefited from the Allowance which is seen to provide an incentive for young people to continue their post 16 education either in school or college. Further information is available on the Highland Council website.
