Council workers in the Highlands will not be given an extra day's holiday to mark Scotland's first game at the men's World Cup in 28 years.
First Minister John Swinney previously said Monday 15th of June should be designated as a national bank holiday, but that it was up to individual employers to make the decision.
Highland councillors have now agreed to reject the proposal after arguing that the holiday could have an impact on essential services such as bin collections and schools.
Controversial Wester Ross fishing restrictions put into place 10 years ago have actually increased catches locally..
On March 23rd 2016, the Wester Ross Marine Conservation Area (Also known as the Marine Protection Area) was officially brought into force. This stretches from the Summer Isles in Coigach down to Loch Ewe. Advocates of the MPA area now have revealed that they don’t believe that anyone has been put out of work as a result of the conservation area and that catches have increased for some.
The MPA also introduced the banning of scallop dredging which has meant that trawlers are only permitted in designated areas.
And in the weekend’s football:
Despite leading two nil after just sixteen minutes, Ross County was held to a two two draw on Saturday by Dunfemline Athletic. County moves off the bottom of the league table with Airdrieonians falling one point behind but is five points behind the two teams immediately above it with just six matches remaining for all clubs.
In League One, Inverness Caley Thistle drew one each with Alloa Athletic and still leads the league, but now by just one point from Stenhousemuir which won its match on Saturday.
Both County and Caley Thistle's next matches are on Friday night.
