Proposals have been put forward for the construction of ten new affordable homes in Coigagh on the site of the former Achiltibuie Hydroponicum which it is said could play a key role between a thriving community and one which is not sustainable.

The development proposal would see six flats and semi-detached houses to be rented as well as four detached and semi-detached homes to be put up for discounted sale. If all goes according to plan, the next stage of the process should happen early in 2025 with new tenants moving into the properties early in 2027.

A cargo ship ran aground last night in the Minch.

HM Coastguard was alerted at 1am to the incident in Kyle Rhea and lifeboats were launched from Kyle and Portree. The ship was later refloated and anchored in Glenelg Bay. No-one was injured. A coastguard tug and a commercial tug were later on stand-by at the scene.

The death has been announced of Ross Cowie, the founder of Lucky2BHere, the charity based on Skye which has been instrumental in the provision of many defibrillators in the local area.

The charity was formed in 2007 after Ross had himself suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and his life was saved by a passing ambulance crew. He dedicated Luck2BHere to giving others the same chance, and many lives have been saved since by the provision of defibrillators in local communities.

By contrast, for the same period last year, just under 300 units needed repairs.
