The Scottish Government has announced that the next phase of dualling the A9 road between Perth and Inverness will commence in the spring next year. 

The work which involves 9.6 kilometres of road between Tomatin and Moy is scheduled for completion in spring 2028. On completion, there will be approximately 33 kilometres of continuous dual carriageway between Inverness and Slochd. Preparatory works which will involve some disruption to traffic are planned to start on October 21st

 A row has broken out on Lewis after the local branch of Tesco started holding consultations with staff and residents about opening seven days a week, with more than 700 people having signed an online petition against the change. 

Some Tesco staff already work in the store on Sundays to replenish the shelves and Tesco has confirmed that no staff would be forced to work that day. The Island’s only other supermarket, a Co-op, remains closed on Sundays.

Around 200 people attended an open meeting on Monday night to discuss the financial situation of Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club. According to the club’s appointed financial consultant there have been expressions of interest from various places about investing in the club but any deal to save it from administration must happen by Wednesday, October 16th.

The consultant commented that the most likely outcome is that the club will enter administration next week which he claimed will give it the best chance of long term survival.

 A major Ross-shire attraction has been the subject of an investigation over potential pollution of the nearby Logie Burn.

A whistle blower alerted the Scottish Evironmental Protection Agency over an incident at the Glen Ord distillery in September. Inspectors found a leak on the effluent line from the distillery’s still house to its effluent tank.

Repairs were undertaken to prevent any pollution reaching the Burn with SEPA satisfied that no environmental impacts have been detected as a result of the spill.
