A new disability benefit, for people of State Pension age in the Highlands, was launched yesterday.

The Pension Age Disability Payment - which is worth between two hundred and ninety and four hundred and thirty-four pounds a month, depending on need - is not means-tested and is open to anyone of State Pension age and over who is disabled, has a long-term health condition or is terminally ill.

Highland Council is to host a Housing Challenge Summit, to enable all stakeholders to focus on the Housing Challenge in Highland

Somwehere in the region of twenty-four thousand new homes will be required in the next decade. The partners will investigate obtaining finance; the mechanisms to build new housing; flexibility regarding the ownership of housing, and new ways to maximise land supply.

The conference will be held today in Aviemore. 

SSEN Transmission is to host a public webinar to outline the technology options which will transform the grid in the north of Scotland.

The company is planning a twenty-billion-pound investment programme to create a network for net zero. The webinar will compare transmission technologies and consider the complexities and challenges that come with transporting the huge amount of renewable energy across the country.

The online forum will be held tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd October, from 10.30am.to 11,45am. Places can be booked on the SSEN website.  A recording will be available after the session.

Highland Council has been shortlisted in two categories for The Scottish Green Energy Awards.

The awards, run by Scottish Renewables, celebrate the organisations, people and projects shaping Scotland’s clean energy future. The council is nominated for the Outstanding Project Award and the Carbon Reduction Award.

The winners will be announced on 5th December in Edinburgh.
