This year’s HebCelt Festival was the most successful in the event’s 28-year history as its investment in new technology, infrastructure and enhanced sponsorship packages paid dividends.
Tickets for Saturday’s headliners Skerryvore sold-out, as did local fringe events, with Lulu only a handful of tickets away from achieving the same. More than 18,500 people attended the festival, compared to 17,900 the previous year. As a result, festival organisers have been able to freeze 2026 early bird tickets as a thank you to loyal fans and in recognition of ongoing cost of living challenges. Next year’s festival takes place between 15th and 18th July with early bird tickets already on sale at the same price for the third year in a row.
The annual Gairloch Golf Club Open golf tournament took place on Saturday. The Stevie McIntosh Memorial Trophy was won by Mark Dodd with a scratch score of 66, winning by four shots.
Other winners of their respective sections were Richard Moir, Johnny Bevens who had the best net score of 61, and Duncan McTavish. Organisers thanked sponsors Angus MacLeod and Andrew Maclean, greenkeeper Mark Dodd, Thomas and Linda for catering and Carol Howlett for all her work behind the scenes.
Both Ross County and Inverness Caley Thistle lost their matches in the Premier Sports Scottish League Cup on Saturday and are eliminated from the tournament. County was beaten three one at home by Partick Thistle while Caley Thistle lost five one away against Raith Rovers. Both teams play their first league matches next Saturday.
Meanwhile Ross County's Women's team has found out who it will play in the Scottish Cup. The draw sees County's Women receiving a bye in the first preliminary round and being drawn to play the winner of Arbroath against Giffnock in the second preliminary round. The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday 7th September.
