A Wester Ross community garden has won another prestigious award.

The Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society has selected the Gairloch Sitooterie Wildlife Viewing Garden for a Horticultural Groups Award, given to only five groups in Scotland this year recognising the excellence of their work and the length of time they have been established.

Sitooterie team member David Carruthers said that this award had come completely out of the blue and the group had no idea that they had been nominated . He added that the award was a huge tribute to the Sitooterie volunteers and all those who have been supporters during the 10 years since the Sitooterie was established. Members of the group have been invited to attend the Awards Ceremony in Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Gardens in March.

Applications are now open for this year’s Feis Rois Ceilidh Trail touring the country in July and August following an intensive training week.

The Trail is open to traditional musicians aged between 16 and 25, who will spend the summer playing music, travelling throughout Scotland and beyond, gaining experience of life as a professional musician. Several places will be reserved for musicians who live in or come from Ross-shire.

A stipend is payable to participants with all meals, accommodation and travel provided. Applications close on Sunday 8th February and auditions will be held in Dingwall on the weekend of 28th February.

Meanwhile Feis Rois is holding its annual Spring Workshops in Dingwall, Tain and the Macphail Centre in Ullapool from 6th to 9th April.

Each event is open to all young people from P4 up to S6 and will provide the opportunity to try various instruments along with step dance, drama and Gaelic song, with the chance for more advanced players to be guided by top traditional music and drama tutors.

There’s midweek football tonight when Inverness Caley Thistle plays at home against Stenhousemuir in the quarter finals of the KDM Evolution Trophy, the Scottish Challenge Cup.

The teams are level on points at the top of League One so will be keen to make their mark against each other in the cup competition. Kickoff is at quarter to eight.
