Last weekend’s Bealach Na Ba Cycle Sportive has been declared a great success. Entries to the event which was first held in 2006 had been declining in previous years and the previous promoters terminated their involvement in 2024.
The event was taken over for 2025 by Shieldaig Community Association which was able to more than double the number of participants to more than 500. A representative of the Association said this year’s event exceeded all expectations with phenomenal community spirt, volunteer commitment and rider enthusiasm. All proceeds from the event will go directly to local causes to be used in the community.
Roadworks on the A835 at Ardcharnich Bridge near Braes of Ullapool are set to cause some disruption from today until Friday. There will be single lane closures between 8am and 6pm each day with temporary traffic lights in operation to enable road surfacing and related works to enhance visibility to be carried out.
A spate of bicycle thefts across the Highlands has been reported. Eight off road motorcycles, three electric bikes and a mountain bike worth a five figure sum in total were stolen along with some clothing, from properties in Conon Bridge, Muir of Ord, Inverness and several other places. Police believe the thefts are linked in some way, with two vans believed to have been used, and are appealing to anyone who may have information to get in touch.
The second leg of the SPFL Premiership playoff final takes place at the Global Energy Stadium in Dingwall tonight when Ross County plays Livingston. The first leg last Thursday finished in a one all draw so the winner tonight will play in the Premiership next season while the loser will play in the Championship.
If the match is level after regulation time, 30 minutes extra time will be played with a penalty shoot out to follow if the scores are still level. Kick off is at 8 o’clock and the match is being televised live on Sky Sports Main Event and Football channels.
Meantime, the meeting of creditors of Inverness Caledonian Football Club which had been scheduled for last Thursday will now take place on 5th June. The joint administrators of the club will be proposing a Company Voluntary Arrangement which, if approved by the creditors and shareholders, will enable a previously submitted offer to purchase the club to succeed and the club to exit administration which the administrators believe is achievable.
