A key milestone in the A96 Inverness to Nairn dualling project was reached last week when the final stage of the process to acquire the land required was completed.

Scottish Ministers will take title to the land which has been acquired by a compulsory purchase order on 21 April.

Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said that work would continue to determine a suitable option for delivering the scheme and a timetable for progress.

The North of Scotland Archaeological Society are set to examine what they believe to be a medieval crannog in Loch Achilty, near Contin.

Crannogs are thought to have appeared in Neolithic times, about six thousand years ago, but those from the Middle Ages are much rarer.

Tests on timber samples from Loch Achilty have shown that part of the crannog was built between 1046 and 1221, with further construction between 1323 and 1421. This places it firmly within the medieval period.

Further investigations will take place later this year, funded by the 245-year-old Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

Maggie’s Highland volunteer, Jannette Goodman, has set social media alight with praise for her warmth, humour and coffee-making skills as she retires from the role.

Katrina, from the charity, said that they were very grateful to Janette and all the volunteers who provide a warm, friendly welcome to cancer sufferers, their families and friends.

Volunteers are an important support to the professional team at Maggie's Highland, and anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to contact them.

…and in the weekend football ….
