Dundonnel Mountain Rescue Team are advising hill walkers who use GPS navigation apps to carry a paper map and compass as a backup.
The call comes after the team were scrambled to the aid of a walker who’d become disoriented in bad weather, while trying to complete the Mullardoch 12.
The team leader said that while navigational aids on mobile devices were fantastic, the apps can fail or the battery can run out. A backup is essential.
Scottish Land & Estates has published a report detailing the exceptional response to the devastating wildfires near Carrbridge and Dava last month - the largest such event in Scotland’s history.
Over thirty-three businesses were involved, including twenty-seven estates, contributing 3 million pounds worth of specialist equipment and over a hundred personnel, with essential knowledge of the terrain and fire behaviour – without which the scale of devastation would have been even greater.
The report also recommended urgent investment in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s wildfire response capability.
The Road Rage Cowboy is scheduled to begin an epic journey around the coastline of the UK on a vintage tractor.
Marius Anderson will set out this morning from Highland Tractors on the Black Isle, to raise funds for Cancer Research and other charities.
His solo trip on the 60-year-old Massey Ferguson 35X will then describe a figure of eight around the shore of mainland Britain, ending at Applecross before heading home.

Both Ross County and Inverness Caley Thistle have games tonight, which they need to win to retain a chance of qualifying for the knock out stages of the Premier Sports Scottish League Cup.
County has a home match against Edinburgh City, while Caley Thistle plays away against East Kilbride.
The games kick off at quarter to eight and will be decided by a penalty shoot-out, carrying an extra point for the winner, if the matches are drawn at the end of regulation time.
