A new transport service is being developed to serve the rural communities of Scotland’s west coast.
Responding to local need in Wester Ross, West Coast Taxis aim to provide dependable transport for both locals and visitors, with clear fixed pricing and friendly local drivers.
All taxi services will be offered, and will include a local senior citizen discount to help support older members of the communities.
As the company grows, job opportunities for owner drivers will be offered in the Gairloch, Loch Ewe Torridon and Skye areas.
A dedicated phone line, website, and booking platform are set to launch in the near future.
Residents across the Highlands are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and keep their community beautiful as part of ‘SpringCleanScotland’.
Coordinated by the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, this initiative is the nation’s largest annual mass litter picking event and will run until 24th April.
Earlier this year, Keep Scotland Beautiful reported that half of Scottish adults admitted littering in the past twelve months, while eighty-eight percent considered litter to be a national concern.
SpringCleanScotland provides an opportunity for all individuals to contribute meaningfully and support efforts to address this issue collectively.
Further information is available on their website.
The group leading efforts to create a visitor centre dedicated to St Kilda say they require millions of pounds in funding to move forward.
A site in Uig, Lewis — over forty miles from the remote archipelago — has already been granted planning permission.
The concept for the centre has existed for seventeen years, with projected costs increasing from approximately six million pounds to more than ten million.
Once completed, the centre would offer visitors a deeper understanding of the islands' unique environment, as well as the experiences of those who lived there up until 1930.
