The Shop at the Pier in Gairloch is scheduled to change hands this Wednesday from present owners David and Anne Carruthers, who founded the business 25 years ago as the Gairloch Chemi-store.
The purchaser is RSD Cameron Limited, comprising local Port Henderson family, Richard, Sally and Duncan Cameron, which has already taken over running of the Post Office.
The Shop at the Pier will close at 1 o’clock tomorrow (Tuesday) to allow essential stocktaking to take place and should reopen on Wednesday morning under the new owners.
The Loch Ewe Brewing Company Limited has issued an update on its proposal to lead a community buyout of the former Macleod and Mitchell industrial unit in Poolewe.
It proposes to utilise the existing Loch Ewe Community Enterprise, a community benefit society set up in 2021 to purchase Poolewe Village Stores.
That project did not proceed but the Enterprise is believed to be capable of being repurposed to run a community business park and its governance is being transferred to the brewing company which in turn is looking for new directors to help direct the project. It is looking to win support and backing of all community stake holding organisations to deliver an economic catalyst to the area.
The Ullapool zero waste shop has secured new premises by taking over the former tourist information centre in Argyle Street.
Ullapool Unpacked, established in 2019 by Evie Strange, has been operating as a community refill shop from a mobile trailer and as a pop-up shop in the Ullapool Village Hall.
According to Evie, having its own space has been the dream for many years and she can’t wait to welcome everyone to the community refill shop after it has been fitted out. The shop sells everything loose without packaging, so customers can bring a reusable container and fill it with the product and quantity they want.
