Local Headlines - 15 December 2025

Lochbroom Church of Scotland in Ullapool has opened its doors for the annual Christmas Tree Festival.

Organized and pioneered this year by the Reverend Heidi Hercus and her volunteers, 2025 sees the largest number of entries ever.

The sixty-three trees and one-hundred-and-fifty nativity scenes, which fill the Church on the corner of Market Street, will remain on display until 26th December.

The festival is open daily from 2pm -7pm and until 9pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.

NHS 24 is encouraging patients to ensure they have sufficient prescribed medicines to last over the festive period …… when GP surgeries and pharmacies will be closed.

They are also advising everyone to keep a small supply of over-the-counter medicines and first-aid items to hand to treat minor illnesses.

The Accessing Medicines guide on NHS inform has information on obtaining both prescribed and non-prescribed medicines in an emergency.

Advance warning has been given of new traffic management measures on the A9 between the Tay Crossing and Ballinluig from Monday 5th January.

A temporary speed limit will be in place with narrowed lanes, restrictions on right turns and a temporary roundabout installed. Full details will be released in due course.

And in football news ….

Following its heaviest defeat of the season, Ross County's manager, Tony Docherty, and his assistant, Callum Davidson, have left the club "by mutual consent".

County was beaten six-nil on Saturday by Raith Rovers, leaving it at the bottom of the SPFL Championship, two points behind second-bottom team, Queens Park.

The club issued a statement yesterday thanking Docherty and Davidson for their efforts at the club, and said a further update would be issued in due course.

In League One, Inverness Caley Thistle beat Hamilton Academical four-nil to extend its lead at the top of the table to five points with a game in hand over second-top club, Alloa Athletic.
