Works are to continue on the Western Isles HVDC Link Project, despite planning permission being refused near Beauly. 

Following the recent decision by the Highland Council South Planning Committee to refuse the proposed Fanellan project, SSEN have announced that key enabling and early construction activities will continue. This will include culvert works in Dundonnell area and the installation of temporary compounds along the cable route. 


 The Highland Ranger Report highlights the ongoing visitor management pressures in the Highland area.

In their annual Report for 2025, it was revealed that Rangers undertook seventeen hundred and fifty five patrols, checking countryside sites on almost twenty two thousand occasions; a far greater number than in previous years. Their key issues have been an increase in informal camping, fires, litter, abandoned tents and blackwater waste dumping. 

 

Baking is often considered one of the most heartfelt ways to express love so what better way to celebrate than with the announcement of the inaugural World Shortbread Championships….

The Head Judge has also been announced for this Championship, Jeni Iannetta of Bad Girl Bakery in Muir of Ord and Inverness.

The first ever World Shortbread Championships are being organised by High Life Highland and takes place on 21 November at Inverness Leisure. Participants can enter a traditional shortbread and a speciality shortbread, or they can just enter one or the other. The winner of each category will go forward to the grand final with the baker with the most points being crowned Champion

And in today’s football news: 

Ross County has a home game in the Championship against Queens Park with the kick off at three o'clock this afternoon. The teams played each other last week when County won one nil to move one point above Queens Park in the league. 

In League One, Inverness Caley Thistle travels to play Hamilton Academical. Kick off is at half past five and the game is being televised live on BBC Alba.
