Thirteen nine hole golf clubs throughout the Highlands including Lochcarron, Gairloch and Ullapool have joined together to raise the profile of smaller clubs in the region.
The group, known as High 9s Golf, is run by volunteers from the member clubs and is supported by larger clubs within the Golf Highland network. For the first time it will be represented as a group at the Scottish Golf Tourism Week which starts today in Edinburgh.
Individual members of the High 9s clubs have real benefits from the organization enjoying reciprocal discounted green fee arrangements and with clubs actively promoting one another’s open competitions to attract more visitors.
A planning application for land 1.7 kilometres east of Garbhaig House near Slattadale has been validated and is open for comment and consultation until Friday 20th March.
The application is by Garbhaig Hydro Power Company Limited and is for the installation of five hydro intakes, a buried pipeline, borrow pits, 4.7 kilometres of track and a new bridge over a river flowing into Loch Garbhaig.
Information supporting the application to Highland Council states that the maximum reduction of water flows into the Talladale River would be around 9 per cent. Full details of the application are available on the Highland Council website.
Data from the Scottish Charity Register shows that more charities closed than opened in the Highlands last year. Seventy three new charities were registered in 2025 while eighty three were removed from the register.
A spokesperson for Ansvar Insurance, a specialist insurer for charities and not for profit organisations, commented that the figures show how challenging the current environment has become with rising operational costs, a more competitive fundraising landscape and increased demand, meaning organisations need to think differently about sustainability.
To help local organisations strengthen their resilience, Ansvar is encouraging charities to explore less obvious strategies that can make a meaningful difference including building practical partnerships, focusing on long term supporter relationships and reviewing insurance and risk exposure.
