Highland charity, Mikeysline is marking it’s 10th year of working within communities to prevent suicide, with a stand up comedy tour across the region that will reach Ullapool this coming Friday, 11th July.
The tour will not only highlight the work the charity does in supporting people with, and raising wider awareness about mental health issues, but aims to give audiences a good laugh to lift spirits.
The tour will also raise much needed funds for the charities work to continue, and the gig will take place at the MacPhail centre with doors opening from 7.30 pm and the show starting at 8.
Tickets are available either on-line or on the door on the night.
A project to recycle waste at an aquaculture hatchery in Wester Ross has secured just over £630,000 from Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Bakkafrost Scotland limited is leading the project, which has a total investment value of more than £2.5m. In the first of its kind, the process converts aquaculture waste into biochar, which will be used by the forestry sector.
Bakkafrost is one of the largest producers of farmed salmon in Scotland. Since buying the Scottish Salmon Company in 2019 the company has made significant strategic investments in Scotland, most notably in a new recirculating aquaculture system hatchery at Kishorn.
A highland beach has featured in the latest survey of Scotlands best beaches.
Achmelvich beach has come third in the list of eight of the top Scottish destinations. Lying three miles north west of Lochinver and accessed via a single track, the secluded location boasts beautiful white sand with turquoise waters that are often compared to tropical destinations.
The sheltered bay is ideal for water activities like kayaking, surfing, and swimming with visitors also reporting sightings of porpoises, dolphins, and minke whales.
The Belladrum Festival has unveiled this years line up for the spoken word tent.
Running from July 31 to August 2, the venue known as the Verb Garden will offer a space for creativity and the power of words, with appearances from Stuart Murdoch, frontman of Scottish group Belle & Sebastian, who will read from his novel ‘Nobody’s Empire’ and perform a selection of songs in an intimate set on Saturday afternoon.
