The Highland Council’s Housing & Property Committee has agreed a new strategic action plan aimed at addressing the issue of long-term empty homes across Highland.
As part of the strategy, the Council will offer a dedicated Empty Homes Service, to help owners bring properties back into use. This includes Guidance on managing common issues, connections to trusted contractors, letting agents and advisors, and advice on selling, renting, or renovating.
Owners may also be able to sell their property directly to the Council, thus providing homes for key workers and local families while simplifying the selling process.
Owners of empty property are urged to get in touch via the council website: emptyhomes@highland.gov.uk.
SSEN Transmission has been confirmed as one of the principal sponsors of this year’s Mock COP30 event, taking place in Inverness on Monday.
The youth-led conference mirrors the global COP process and empowers young people to engage with climate policy and action.
The event will bring together students from across the Highlands, to engage in debates, propose innovative solutions, and simulate the decision-making processes of the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
In addition, SSEN Transmission’s sponsorship will help provide resources to schools who are unable to attend the event to put on their own Mock-COP debates, allowing even more schools to get involved in climate conversations.
