£12,000 of community benefits have been delivered as part of Highland Council’s energy efficiency programme.
Highland Council has distributed £8,000 worth of supermarket vouchers to vulnerable adults and children in the region. This is in partnership with Union Technical who deliver community benefits as part of the Energy Efficient Scotland programme.
The Scottish Crofting Federation has welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement of an additional £20,000 to support greylag goose management in Uist and Barra.
A significant reduction in the greylag population remains a priority for crofters, given the sustained damage to traditional machair crops and the risk this poses to local seed stocks, winter feed production and biodiversity. A growing concern is the potential shortage of traditional seed stocks, largely due to repeated crop damage.
Highland Council has agreed their budget for 2026-2027, including a 7% increase in Highland council tax bills.
Of the increase, 5% would go towards core services with the remaining 2% to be used for improving roads and schools. Highland Council said the proposals would deliver a balanced budget without the need for the use of reserves. £12 million pound in new investments has also been approved.
