Tributes have poured in following the death of Wester Ross businesswoman Shân Tunsley, describing her as ‘a whirlwind of energy’ and ‘a friend and mentor to many’.

Shan, widely recognized as the leading figure at Ullapool’s West Coast Delicatessen on Argyle Street,
passed away in January following a five-week struggle with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder.

Her funeral will be held at the Caledonian Hotel in Ullapool on Tuesday 10th February at 1pm, to which all are welcome.

As a mark of respect, the delicatessen will remain closed until after the funeral.

Highland communities and campaigners have expressed their approval after the council rejected a proposal for new electricity infrastructure at Fanellan, near Beauly.

Nearly two thousand public objections had been submitted against SSEN Transmission’s plans to build a substation and converter station in the area.

The facility would be used as part of the existing Beauly to Denny powerline, and for connections for electricity generated in the Western Isles in the future.

Although council planning officers recommended granting permission, stating that it was necessary to help distribute power, councillors unanimously voted to reject the proposal.

SSEN Transmission has stated they will appeal the council's decision to the Scottish government.
